Back to the Depot
Run on Less – Electric DEPOT took place in 2023, and featured 10 fleets that had at least 15 battery electric vehicles operating at a single depot. The trucks were outfitted with Geotab devices and data was collected during the three weeks of the Run.
In addition to data collection, NACFE staff members interviewed 122 people including fleet managers, drivers, charging system providers, NGOs, and utilities.
The fleet depots included:
- Frito-Lay in Queens, NY
- OK Produce in Fresno, CA
- Penske in Ontario, CA
- Pepsi Beverages in Sacramento, CA
- Performance Team in Commerce, CA
- Purolator in Richmond, BC
- Schneider in South El Monte, CA
- UPS in Compton, CA
- US Foods in La Mirada, CA
- WattEV in Long Beach, CA
During those interviews, fleets shared their experiences moving from having only one or two BEVs to having 15 or more. They talked about what went right with the deployment as well as what some of the challenges were. They also shared their plans for further electrification of their fleets.
NACFE is revisiting these 10 fleet depots in this series Back to Depot. Each of the case studies will recap what we learned during our site visits in 2023 and any new developments that have taken place since.
