Driving Maximum Efficiency
In 2026, NACFE and Shell collaborated on a report which highlights the existing technologies being implemented by high-efficiency fleets to achieve best-in-class freight efficiency and lower-carbon performance.
These key technologies and practices include:
- Maintenance practices and data use that prioritize fuel efficiency
- Adoption of low viscosity and FA-4 technologies
- Increasing use of alternative fuels such as renewable natural gas
It also looked at the role of advanced lubricants including low high-temperature, high-shear (HTHS) products that are designed for enhanced fuel efficiency. A deployment roadmap provides a pathway for fleets to switch from their current oils to low-viscosity engine oils and lubricants.
The report leveraged data from NACFE’s Fleet Fuel Study, which shows that influential fleets are adopting freight-efficiency technologies and practices at increasing rates.
