NACFE Relies on Leading Organizations for Support
From Executive Director Mike Roeth
When I am out and about at trade shows or other events, I’m often asked about what it takes to join NACFE. I point out to whoever is asking that NACFE is not a membership organization. We don’t collect membership fees or dues.
A lot of people also assume that we charge for our Confidence and Guidance Reports. We don’t, even though we often see our work quoted in reports from folks that charge a fair amount of money for their reports.
One of the very first projects NACFE worked on in 2013 was a report with ICCT on the Barriers to Adoption of Fuel Efficiency Technologies. This report found that lack of credible information was one of the key factors preventing fleets from adopting fuel-saving technologies. NACFE’s mission from the very beginning was to provide unbiased information, which helped fleets in making purchasing decisions. We felt it was important that this information be widely available, so we offer it for free to everyone.
How then does NACFE pay its bills? While we operate in a lean-and-mean manner, we still do incur expenses. We rely on leading organizations in the industry to support us in variety of ways. Companies provide this support through financial sponsorship of the organization or for specific projects such as Confidence Reports, Guidance Reports, Run on Less events or Workshops. Other in-kind contributions include providing needs for the organization such as technical assistance, design and communications support, event delivery, etc.
In recent years, we have received funding from several philanthropic organizations — ClimateWorks Foundation and Hewlett Foundation. These funds are typically earmarked for a specific project rather than going into our general operating fund.
In order to continue our work of driving the development and adoption of efficiency enhancing, environmentally beneficial, and cost-effective technologies, services, and operational practices in the movement of goods across North America, we continue to need your support.
