January 11 and 12, 2010, the NACFE New Founders Group elected the first-year Board of Directors. This group’s primary functions will be governance and definition of the Council’s initial activities, funding, and operation as a legal non-profit 503 ( c ).

Don Baldwin

Product Marketing Manager

Michelin North America

Baldwin has spent 30 years working with Michelin in manufacturing, quality, product design and marketing. He is currently responsible for Product Marketing for Michelin Commercial Truck Tires in North America and evaluates market trends, specifying the technologies and tire lines that will be developed for future customer needs. After recieving a B.S. in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, he was trained by the U.S. Navy in nuclear engineering and served for five years in the Nuclear Submarine Force. He is also a member of the Advisory Council for the Yellowstone Park Foundation.



Kevin Beaty

Manager – Global Operations and Strategic Sourcing

Eaton Corporation

Kevin has more than 20 years of experience working at the forefront of the advanced commercial vehicle powertrain industry.

Kevin joined Eaton Corporation as Business Unit Manager – Hybrid Electric Powertrains in March 2000 to lead the development and commercialization of Eaton’s hybrid electric business. Prior to joining Eaton, he held positions of Research Engineer, Senior Research Engineer, Group Leader and Manager with Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in the Engine, Fuel, and Vehicle Research Division. While at SwRI, Kevin conducted engine R&D projects for the government and industry clients primarily focused on alternative fuels, energy efficiency, and emissions reductions. After leaving SwRI, he converted vehicles to natural gas (CNG) as Vice President of Vehicle Operations (start-up Natural Fuels Corporation) and developed advanced CNG/LNG engine control systems for commercial vehicles as Business Unit Manager and Director (Woodward Governor Company).

Kevin has provided leadership and direction to industry and government partnership programs including formation and management of the GasRail USA public/private consortium in 1993 and participation in the 21st Century Truck Partnership as a charter member (2000) and Executive Committee member (2004-2007). He joined the U.S. Department of Commerce Clean Energy Trade Mission to China in 2007 and 2008 as an industry delegate.

Kevin has worked to advance the automotive engineering profession through service to SAE as Chairman of the Future Transportation Technology Conference in 1993; organizing and moderating numerous panels, technical sessions and workshops on topics ranging from alternative fuels to design (1993–2001); and publishing papers and delivering award winning presentations since 1989.

Kevin holds a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University and is currently pursuing an MBA degree from Michigan State University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer, State of Texas and a Member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.



Tim Dzojko

Maintenance & Environmental Manager

Kraft Foods

Dzojko currently works as the Maintenance & Environmental Manager for Kraft Foods’ U.S.-based trucks fleets. Involved with the trucking industry since age 16, Dzojko has worked in many aspects of fleet operations and vehicle maintenance. Based in Allentown, PA, he has been with Kraft Foods for 20 years; 13 of those years within fleet operations; nine years working as a fleet manager supervising day to day operations. Dzojko serves in Kraft’s Sustainability Team and is Kraft’s liaison to the EPA’s SmartWay partnership.



Gary Gaussoin

Gaussoin’s company specializes in trailing equipment for commercial heavy duty truck-trailer and light tactical military wheeled vehicles. In addition to a career in manufacturing, Gaussoin has worked in a family-owned truck dealership and as a board member of their regional LTL motor carrier.



Jon Gustafson

VP of Marketing and Sales

Cascade Sierra Solutions

As VP Marketing/Sales of Cascade Sierra Solutions (CSS), Mr. Gustafson brings special knowledge of how long haul truckers can adopt environmental protection devices for critical improvements in fuel economy and emissions. He is active in federal EPA conferences on SmartWay, the federal program promoting environmental equipment for long-haul trucking. He is responsible for strategic planning, implementation of the annual plan and developing the five-year plan for the company. He participated with Sharon Banks in the founding of Cascade Sierra Solutions in late 2006.



Shauna McIntyre

Achates Power

During her fifteen years in the automotive and commercial vehicle industry, McIntyre has led numerous organizations in engineering, manufacturing, program management and marketing. Now as Executive Vice President of venture capital-backed Achates Power, she is responsible for commercializing the company’s proprietary engine technology. Prior to joining Achates Power, McIntyre drove significant share growth of Honeywell’s Commercial Vehicle turbo business (Garrett®) where she was a Vice President. Prior to Honeywell, McIntyre was a Senior Associate at McKinsey & Co. where she focused on R&D effectiveness.



CJ Mortimer

Product Manager

UPS Logistics Technologies

UPS Logistics Technologies is the creator of Roadnet Transportation Suite and has been supporting the reduction of miles and increased operational efficiency for over 25 years. CJ Mortimer is a software Product Manager and her focus is to understand the industry and recommend enhancements to the software based on market needs. UPS Logistics Technologies works diligently to support its customers through reducing miles, fuel consumption and carbon output by developing the most efficient route plans. CJ Mortimer would be a valuable asset to the NACFE Board of Directors because of her passion and commitment to finding ways to promote green, efficient practices within the transportation industry.



Mike O’Connell

Director of Fleet Capability

Frito-Lay

Michael O’Connell, Director of Fleet Operations for Frito-Lay North America (FLNA), oversees one of the largest privately owned fleets in the United States. In this role, Mike is responsible for the development and execution of the organization’s sustainability strategy for fleet. This transformation encompasses upgrading existing assets, as well as the identification and integration of innovative “green” technologies and vehicles. The ultimate goal for the company is to become the “most fuel efficient fleet in the U.S.” Under Mike’s guidance, the company has been implementing initiatives such as route and asset optimization, operator training, aerodynamics, GPS, and developing partnerships with organizations like the Department of Transportation and its SmartWay program.

Mike started with FLNA in 1991 at its Wooster, Ohio facility. In his 18 years with the company, he has worked in a number of field positions in Service & Distribution, Finance, and Supply Chain at various FLNA sites including Frankfort, Indiana one of the company’s largest manufacturing facilities.

He received his MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH and a combined B.S.B.A. (finance and operations management) from The Ohio State University.



Mike Ogburn

Energy Engineering

Mike Ogburn is a Mechanical Engineer and a Consultant with over 12 years of experience in advanced transportation. His background includes work at Cummins Diesel, at Ford on the Hybrid Escape and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Focus, and at Rocky Mountain Institute where he led and co-authored the “Transformational Trucks” study that preceded this Charrette. Mike holds a Master of Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and continues his work in the field of energy efficient transportation with several organizations including The ICCT where he assists in the development of Medium and Heavy Duty Vehicle Fuel Economy Standards.



Yves Provencher

Yves Provencher is the manager of research and development at FPInnovations, a diverse company that has created the Energotest to measure the efficiency of heavy duty trucks and equipment. Yves works at diversifying revenues sources of FPInnovations, developing a wide expertise in forestry (Heavy Equipment, Energy, Transportation) that can be used in other sectors ( Mining, Construction…).



Michael Roeth

Roeth has worked in the commercial vehicle industry for nearly 25 years. At ROETH, LLC he focuses on helping companies be successful in the commercial truck and bus marketplace. His specialty is brokering green truck collaborative projects to move technologies into the real world. As Director, Global Advanced Engineering for Navistar International, he led the advanced engineering efforts for the Navistar family of vehicle brands. These efforts included fuel economy improvement, emissions reductions, driver comfort and efficiency as well as quality, cost and performance breakthroughs.



Andrew Smith

ATDynamics, Inc.

Smith is Founder and CEO of Advanced Transit Dynamics, Inc. (ATDynamics), a company delivering fuel-saving tractor-trailer aerodynamics technology capable of saving the US trucking industry over $3 billion in fuel expenditures annually. Prior to ATDynamics, Mr. Smith was a consultant with The Monitor Group and a founding member of the OTF Group, an economic development consulting firm with projects in Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa.



Bruce Stockton

Vice President—Maintenance & Asset Management

Con-way Truckload

Bruce Stockton has 27 years of transportation experience. He joined Con-way Truckload in 1985 as a management trainee. Since that time, he has led five departments as a Vice President within the company, including safety, recruiting, benefits, operations, and currently serves a lead role as vice president of maintenance & asset management.

In addition to his role overseeing both in-house and road service maintenance for the company fleet, as well as facilities maintenance and construction, he also oversees the license, permits and fuel departments. Stockton is also responsible for the specification and procurement of over 10,000 pieces of company operated equipment.

Stockton graduated from Missouri Southern State University, located in Joplin, Mo., in 1984 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.



Eric Thompson

Director of Heavy Duty Service Engineering

Cummins Inc.

Eric is responsible for Cummins heavy duty diesel engine field service, including product support, prototype engine field test,  and EPA regulated “In use emissions tests”. His 28 years at Cummins includes globally focused work with a variety of  truck, transit bus, vocational,  rail, marine, construction, and stationary power applications. He has dedicated much of his career to helping equipment operators improve their vehicle expenses relative to operation, maintenance, fuel efficiency, and repair practices.



Bill Van Amburg

Senior Vice President

CALSTART

Bill Van Amburg is senior vice president for CALSTART, which is North America’s leading non-profit clean transportation technologies consortium.

Bill oversees four program areas: heavy hybrid and high efficiency trucks; new fuels; clean transportation solutions (analysis and consulting); and clean transportation industry services.

Bill is the program executive leading the Hybrid Truck Users Forum (HTUF), a national program to speed the commercialization of hybrid and more efficient medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, operated in a partnership with the U.S. Army’s National Automotive Center (NAC).  He has led this national effort since 2002 and was the project manager responsible for the initial Utility Hybrid Truck Pilot Project which deployed, assessed and validated 24 pre-production trucks with 14 fleets nationwide.  This activity led directly to the initial production commitment for this class of truck, now produced by four major truck makers. Five other working groups in HTUF now follow this same model.

Bill also leads the HTUF Incentives Working Group, a collaborative effort made up of fleet users, manufacturers and suppliers.  Via its efforts the industry secured a national tax credit for hybrid trucks and recently was instrumental in providing recommendations to the state of California leading to the adoption of a unique, streamlined hybrid voucher incentive program to speed and simplify hybrid truck purchase.  Bill oversees the CALSTART project team which manages the $20-million Hybrid Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program (HVIP) for the State of California’s Ari Resources Board (ARB).

Bill brings more than 33 years of experience in market development, technology commercialization, communications and marketing, and environmental markets, including emission credit trading, where he has unique working knowledge of regional criteria emission trading structures as well as global carbon structures and mechanisms.  In 2000 he led a multi-phase industry project funded by the Ministry of the Environment for the Netherlands to develop a criteria emission credit trading market to cost-effectively address and reduce that country’s nitrogen oxide emissions that became the basis of Europe’s first carbon trading market. 



Tom Wieringa

Wieringa leads Logistics Management, Inc., a food warehousing and packaging company with profitable efficiency as an underlying principle. Tom started Carry Transit in 1979 with one truck and built it into the largest bulk food distribution company in the world. He has also built and operated uniquely engineered fleets for Coca Cola, Pepsi-Cola, Frito-Lay, M&M Mars, Cargill, ADM, Abbott Labs, and Miller Brewing.
